....3 hours later I woke up to the sound of my dad saying ‘Wake up – it’s 5.00 o’clock’. After 6 months of randomly booking my RTW trip I am now actually making my way to Gatwick Airport :o)
I had breakfast with my lil sis (who btw canned a 12 hour night shift – ledge!) and Christina (who will be joining me on my SAmerica trip) typical airport breakfast – nothing fancy…just @ Weatherspoon’s…and yes I had a boring nutritional brekkie – Museli, greek yogurt and berry compote :o).
It was pretty much a breeze to get to departure lounge – I love Gatwick Airport – no fuss. Next minute you know we arrive at Madrid Airport, where we needed to get our connecting fight to Mexico City should be easy right? ... Hell no! Christina was not given her boarding pass when we checked in London but this was given to me …so get this we had to go out of Madrid Airport and come in again thru the departure lounge all within an hour bearing in mind that none of us could read or understand Spanish lol…done it though!
I must admit I had a load of crap around me (rucksack, my camera around my neck, my waterproof wallet with all my import docs…get the picture?) …my bro would say ‘you look like a lost art student’ lol.
So now I am on my flight to Mexico City – not even half way. I must admit I had to pinch myself several times just to make sure that I am actually going on a backpacking adventure…aarrggghhhh lol. So what better way to start this 11 and half hour flight?? Double vodka n Lemonade please whilst watching ‘Rio’….
Just finished watching ‘Rio’, which was a funny, light hearted movie. Lights are off, shutters are down and I am confused as it is just 6pm….time diff is so gonna mess me up. Guess I should try and get some nap as I have ‘Mexican Independence Day’ to celebrate tomorrow…yay so to put me to sleep I have a choice of classical music, Lady Gaga and James Brown….nice :o)…..This is just the beginning….
….okay it’s been 4 hours since I last wrote and I have slept for a bit, watched another movie (Something Borrowed) and we are still in the air. This is the longest flight that I’ve ever been on and I’ve worked out that I still have another 5 hours wtf lol – meaning I should arrive in Mexico @ 3am UK time….so where ever I am at the moment is 3pm lunch time….oh btw the lunch that we had was okaaayyy – if you must know it was an olive salad, buttered roll, chicken with potatoes and a cakey thing….starving now! I’m wondering n hoping that dinner/well late dinner (time diff is messing my stomach clock hahaha) is served soon. Oh yes I do have a banging headache but everso glad that we don’t have any kids/nosey peeps on board! I think movie number 3 is in order…Pirates: Stranger Tides.
Finally landed, got out of customs and was picked up by our hostel people. Within seconds of walking out I saw Starbucks and seconds later McDonalds lol. The drive to our hostel was really cool - as it was evening time everyone was eating outside and soaking up the pre Independance day celebrations.
We were welcomed with a large shot of tequila :o)
